Draper Temple Open House

Today we went to the Draper Temple Open house. It is a little difficult with a two year old but she was so excited to go see the Temple (and to ride the bus) it was worth it. (= This was the only picture I could get of the Temple. If you have been before you know that there aren't really many good photo op's outside the Temple.

This pic is us waiting in line for the bus back to our car. Brooklyn put on a big cute smile for me.

They also gave us cookies and water at a church after the tour, Brooklyn loved that of course!

Brooklyn loves to put chap stick on, here she is putting it on on the way home from the Temple (she calls it "pretty.") She sometimes goes a little crazy with it...(=

(This doesn't really have anything to do with our Temple trip but it did happen today and I thought it was cute.) I was looking for the remote control for the DVD player and Brooklyn knew I was looking for it, so she came over and said "Oh you need the motor boat?" And handed me a remote. I guess "motor boat" and "remote" do kind of sound alike...especially to a two year old. (=

Two year olds really do listen

...even if it seems like they aren't.
Yesterday Brooklyn was throwing a fit about something that she really shouldn't have been and I said "Brooklyn, you need to take a deep breath, you are just fine." I thought she just ignored me but then a minute later she sat in her chair and I heard her take a deep breath and say "I'm just fine." (That was the first time I have ever told her to take a deep breath...it was cute.)
Then today we were working on potty training some more and of course Brooklyn likes to do everything herself, so she wanted to put her big girl underpants on herself, and she kept trying to put both legs through a leg hole (which can be done as she has shown me) and I said you have to put both legs through the biggest hole and then one leg through each little hole. Then I went into the other room while she made another attempt and then she said she had done it and she had. And then she told us-"First big hole then little holes." (Or something similar) Anyway, I just want everyone to know that even if you think your child isn't listening, they probably are! So keep trying! (=

Larsen Family FHE

We had family night with Curtis's family last night. We went out to eat and then to his sister's house for a lesson (which Curtis gave, and did a very good job.) I got a picture of Brooklyn with her ice cream and then with her cousin Katelyn.

Fun Day

Today we went shopping and out to eat with our friend Kairy and her son Korban. It was lots of fun! I took this picture of Brooklyn and Korban because they both put on their big smiles and wanted me to take a picture (although I caught Brooklyn between smiles...)

Today

Brooklyn decided she really likes mint 3 musketeers (so do I.) The first time I gave her one she didn't make a big mess with it...so I told her if she ate her dinner tonight she could have one for dessert (the mini ones.) I gave one to her and went into the other room for a minute and then I heard Brooklyn yell-I need to wash my hands! So I came back and she needed to wash more than her hands! Guess I learned my lesson about leaving a two year old alone with chocolate!

For dinner Brooklyn wanted waffles (she usually wants them for at least one meal a day, sometimes two...it is one of the few foods she currently will eat) anyway she always like to get the syrup out herself, and so she got the almost full syrup out and accidently dropped it on the floor, and the lid popped open leaving a big puddle of syrup on the floor. If you have never had the experience of cleaning up a huge puddle of syrup off the floor let me describe it for you-first you have to figure out how to get the syrup off the floor, I think I used about 20 paper towels, then you get to try to get the stickiness off the floor, I used 20 more paper towels (wet this time) trying to do that, then I used a towel to wipe up the water, then I had to get the towel wet to try to wipe up the stickiness that still remained. Add in the excitement of trying to keep a two year old from running through the syrup and I think that about sums it up. Sorry I didn't take a picture, the syrup just did not look very cute. (-;

Earlier today I gave Brooklyn her first piggy back ride (we couldn't give her piggy back rides earlier because her legs were too little to fit around us.) Anyway, her legs still don't quite fit around, but I managed to give her a short ride. I explained to her that it was called a piggy back ride. When I set her down she said "No, I want to ride the pig!" OK, I already am well aware that I need to lose weight, but that just helped reinforce that fact.

Happy Birthday!

Today was my birthday! Thanks for all the Birthday wishes! Last night Curtis took me out to eat and to a movie. Today he and Brooklyn brought me breakfast in bed (complete with candles and singing) and then gave me my presents. They even made me a birthday sign(in the picture)! Afterward we went shopping all day (since Curtis knows how much I like to shop, he really hates to shop but took me anyway because he loves me. (=
I also got to go to lunch with some friends (yesterday) and visit our families today! Everything was great! Thanks everyone for helping me have a wonderful b-day! (=

Flossing

Brooklyn had her first visit to the dentist today. She actually did pretty well for a 2 year old. (The dentist thought she was 3!) He said she needs to floss, which of course means I need to help her floss. The problem is, I have a hard enough time getting her to let me brush her teeth. I tried flossing tonight and it didn't go over very well. The dentist suggested using the Reach flosser, which I did, but she still only let me floss between a few teeth. If anyone has any suggestions on how to floss a two years olds teeth, I would greatly appreciate any advice!

Hair, applesauce, and coloring (but not all at once)

The only way Brooklyn will stand still long enough for me to do her hair is if I let her play in the water in the sink. She calls it "washing" things.

As I mentioned in a previous blog if you ask her to say octopus she always says applesauce, so today we were at the store and they had a cute little octopus for a dollar and I got it for her, and of course she calls it her applesauce. Actually as a side note, now if anyone is laughing at anything she just randomly says "applesauce" because she thinks the word makes people laugh (since we would always laugh when she would say applesauce for octopus.)
(Pretend the first picture of her holding her octopus is one from the late 70's when they used to always put the double image on your portraits...I had the camera setting wrong.)

She also LOVES to color! We have lots of pictures on our fridge. If she really gets going she will just color for an hour or so straight. She is our little artist! (=
